Do I have hirsutism?
Many hirsute women are wondering

by Baby

Body hair drives hirsute women crazy

Body hair drives hirsute women crazy

I am one of the hirsute women who are wondering if I suffer from the illness hirsutism or not.

I am not sure if I have it, but I'm really starting to think so. I have really white skin and dark body hair.

The problem is that the hair is really dark on my belly and back. I also have some hair on my buttocks. The hair on my arms, hands and legs is not that bad.

I remove the unwanted hair on my legs with wax. But only on my legs. I bleach the hair on my belly and back. That solves the problem only for a week or two.

It worries me because 2 or 3 years ago I didn't have this much body hair. It just got darker and started to grow more. I really hope it will stop here.

If it will keep getting darker and thicker I'm thinking about changing my sex. Not because I feel like a man or anything like that, but I'd rather be a man and enjoy my life than be a woman and living miserably because I can't have that hairless smooth skin everybody is so crazy about.

Body hair is not natural anymore. It is gross for everyone, but those ugly, nasty, huge, fake boobs are considered gorgeous. Plastic people are sexy now...

I'm trying not to get upset over such things. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I like natural people, because they are really beautiful.

I love people who just live and don't care about what others say is considered to be normal or right. But still sometimes it gets me into a bad mood and then I hate my body.

I'm pretty in winter because I can cover most of my body, maybe let my hands out or show a little cleavage. But in summer I have to work a little harder to wear some shorts or a tiny top.

That is another thing. I don't have a really, really hairy body, but sometimes I just get bored of waxing, shaving, threading, bleaching, trimming, etc. It drives me crazy!

Maybe I'll go for the hippie look! I love the nature. Then I'll be happy, free, lazy and ... hairy.

(I never really talked to anyone about this, it's too personal, but it feels good to share it with someone:) )

Karina's answer:

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your very sensitive story here. I know for a fact there are lots of women out there who feel exactly like you do, but don't have your guts. BRAVO!

I think I can safely assume that you didn't really mean it when you said that you would like to change your sex. But I can understand it was said out of frustration.

Your photo shows you have a little bit of body hair on your stomach. I have no idea what your back looks like. But I can assure you that it really isn't bad.

Do yourself a favour and visit Female Patient to read up about hirsutism. Medical practitioners use the Ferriman Gallway model to assess the severity of this illness.

The body areas they assess are: upper lip, chin and throat, breasts, stomach, pubic area, upper arms, legs, back and buttocks.

The severity of each body area is assessed on a scale from 1 to 4. One being the least severe and 4 the most.

You only mentioned that you have hair on your stomach, back and buttocks. It is quite common for all nine of the body areas to be affected in different degrees.

I want to suggest that you go to a medical doctor to be correctly assessed. If your hormones are a little haywire he will prescribe medication to correct it.

Remember, it is androgenic (male) hormones that are responsible for the male pattern hair growth on a female's body.

Once your hormones are sorted out you can consider to have the body hair removed by means of laser or electrolysis. But it is imperative that you must get your hormone levels corrected first.

I am honestly of the opinion that you should start to love your body again. You have your health - fully embrace that. Don't waste your precious energy and emotions on a little bit of hair!

You sound like a very sensitive young lady, but please don't let this get the better of you. If you don't love yourself, how can you expect anybody else to love you? You are special, because only one of you were created.

By the way, I totally agree with you about the boobs and plastic people!

I wish you all the luck in the world to sort out your problem. I invite you to please e-mail me through my contact me page and let me know what your doctor said when you visited him.

More about hirsutism
by: Baby

Thank you for your response and good thoughts. I'll keep an eye on this page.

The hair on my back and arms look mostly like those on my belly. I know it's not too bad, but still it bothers me sometimes. Mostly when I'm in a bad mood or something like that.

I love myself, I'm nice, got a good sense of humor, pretty smart too, fun, healthy and many find me attractive. So, why wouldn't I love myself?

If I bleach the 'darn things' you can't see it, even if you stare. So my problem is solved until I have another break down on a bad day.

The thing that bothers me the most, is the world we are living in. I don't even know why I'm trying to fit in, because I don't want to be a plastic doll. I would really like to make a trip back in time to the 60's.

It's hard to find any humans (humanity) these days. Not many people are willing to say something nice just to put a smile on somebody's face, no free hugs, no real feelings, no love.

Just gross nudity. Of course there are ways to make everything look beautiful, artistic, fascinating, etc.

There are even 10 year old girls dieting, for heaven's sake! And again the plastic people, that are being given as examples of real beauty. Are we really evolving? I don't see that.

Sorry if this is mostly off-topic. We are all beautiful, even though we may be hirsute, have cancer, no legs, tumors, too skinny or too fat, hair or no hair, because everybody is unique, with different body shapes, different hair style or skin colour.

Who would want to live in a world where everybody looks alike? The beauty really does come from inside and from the way you treat other people around you.

I'm 18, my life has just started and I'll work hard to make a change, wish you all the best and let's just live!

Karina's reply

I totally agree with you! The media has corrupted the minds of people to put such a huge emphasis on physical beauty.

Unluckily inner beauty hasn't been given the same attention. The psychological turmoil and unhappiness created by this wrong attitude is apparent all over the world.

Advertisements and pornography are mostly to blame for the negative body image most women are struggling with today. Therefore all the plastic surgery.

I am very glad to see you are on the right path. Please continue with this line of thinking, because you are correct.

You sound like a lovely young lady. Don't let the shallowness of wordly beauty cause you to think badly about your own body.

Stop fussing about a little bit of body hair and go out and enjoy your life to the fullest. It is sad but true that life will go on with or without you.

So go out and enjoy it!

Hirsutism is treatable
by: Shorne

While this is no comfort, you are certainly not alone. Hair is always a problem in that some people may have too much of it, some grow hair in all the wrong places, and yet still more people have no hair where they want it.

Hirsutism is a hormonal imbalance in many cases and can be treated.

May I respectfully suggest that you read various sources on the subject and consult a good doctor with experience in this type of problem. Maybe you could start here :-

Karina's reply:

Thank you very much for your supportive comments Shorne. Normally I don't allow a link to another website, but in this case I do. Hopefully many women who have problems with unwanted body hair, and maybe hirsutism, might benefit from it.
