Egyptian Lemon Wax

Water, Sugar and Lemon Juice

Egyptian lemon wax is just one of several different citrus hair removal system recipes that is a skin friendly alternative to waxing, because it doesn't have harmful chemical ingredients.

Equipment To Make Egyptian Lemon Wax This method is to this day still widely used by males and females in the Middle East for body hair removal.

It is cheap and easy to prepare. Even a child can do it.

Only 100% natural ingredients are used. You can't be allergic to any of the ingredients.

Just follow any of the links at the bottom of the page to find several different sugaring recipes.

The sugaring technique is described in 6,000 year old hieroglyphics of ancient Egypt.

It is speculation where the method of body sugaring originated. It can be in ancient Egypt, Persia, the Middle East or China.

Modern people can be thankful to the ancestors for the various sugaring recipes and waxing techniques handed down the generations.

So, are you going to try your hand at any of the easy recipes provided on this website?

Regulating the temperature

Use candy thermometer when making Egyptian lemon wax The recipes for natural hair removal, better known as sugaring, is very easy to follow. Even a child can make it.

However, it takes some practice to get the temperature and consistency just right.

Luckily modern people have the candy thermometer to use. I use the one in the image to the right.

If you have a candy thermometer it is easy to determine. The temperature of the boiling mixture must not exceed 238 Fahrenheit or 114,5 Celcius at sea level.

Adjust the temp, because as little as one or two degrees makes a huges difference to sugaring.

Most households always have the ingredients at hand. So you have no more excuses.

Ingredients For Egyptian Lemon Wax INGREDIENTS:

1 cup of sugar
1 cup of lemon juice - strained
half cup of cold water
1 cup of warm water

EQUIPMENT:
  • Candy thermometer is very important!
  • Wooden spoon for constant stirring
  • Heavy saucepan
  • Measuring cups
  • Juicer and tea sieve for straining
  • Shallow glass, wide necked heatproof plastic container or empty coffe tin.

PREPARATION METHOD:
  1. Cut lemon and extract juice. Strain through small sieve.
  2. Switch stove plate on low heat and put saucepan on.
  3. Put sugar, lemon juice and cold water into saucepan.
  4. Keep on stirring until the mixture turns to amber.
  5. Add the warm water. Let simmer while stirring until it reaches softball stage.
  6. When it thickens it must immediately be removed from the heat.
  7. Let cool for 5 minutes before decanting into a suitable container.
  8. It is ready for immediate use or it can be stored for later use.

What is the soft ball candy stage?

Egyptian lemon wax at soft ball candy stage If you don't have a candy thermometer, you can easily use a metal spoon and glass of water.

When the mixture starts to turn very light amber, and you are able to see the bottom of the saucepan, is the correct time to test.

Fill a drinking glass with cold water.

Dip the handle of the metal spoon into the boiling mixture and then immediately into the cold water.

Leave the spoon inside the cold water for 1 to 2 minutes.

Take out the spoon and roll the mixture from the handle with the fingertips to form a ball. The ball should feel soft in your fingertips. See photograph.

If a ball doesn't form, the Egyptian lemon wax mixture needs some more boiling. If the ball feels hard, it was boiled for too long and has reached the medium or hard ball stage.

This mixture is unfit for sugaring. I suggest you make sweets with it. The mixture can always be boiled some more, but it can't be "un-boiled" when it is already too hard.

Test until the ball feels just right. Always rather undercook, before you do your first test.
