Eyebrow grooming is essential for men with unibrows. The brows have to be separated to help the face look friendlier.

Gay men, like the man in the photo left, prefer the effeminate look of an arch, pointed outside ends and tweezing under the brow line.

Heterosexual men should groom the eyebrows to still look thick, masculine and natural.

It must require very little maintenance by the man to stay that way between salon visits.

Perform eyebrow shaping by the available facial hair removal systems of tweezing, sugaring, waxing or threading.

It is definitely not recommended to shave the brows. Regrowth will be very obvious in a rediculously short time. Hair sticking out at strange angles may be snipped shorter with a sharp pointed scissor.

Eyebrow thickness helps to balance facial features.
Eyebrows protect the eyes by catching sweat before it can run into the eyes.
It also shades the eyes from the sharp rays of the sun.

Eyebrows enhance the facial features.

Eyebrows display emotion (anger, amazement, etc) on the face. Without eyebrows the face is expressionless.

That is why the eyes are always blocked out in photos where identity have to be protected.

How should male eyebrows look?

Absolutely natural - A man should never take eyebrow grooming to extremes. He should simply do some cleaning up, without actually sculpting them.

Very masculine - Male brows should appear full, thick and heavy with blunt outside ends. Go for a groomed look. For males, a strong brow equals a masculine look.

No arches or pointed ends - Unlike female brows, male brows are never thin, pointed or highly arched. Don't change the shape of your natural brow. Just enhance what you already have.

None from top or bottom - Only in very rare circumstances should any hair be removed from either the top or the bottom of the natural eyebrow line. That can very quickly look effeminate. The idea is to look groomed.

Not identical - Almost nobody has 2 eyebrows that look and grow the same way. Be warned that you can overpluck if you try to get them to look identical. One mostly grows better and thicker than the other one.

Low maintenance - Keep in mind that all hair you tweeze out, will eventually grow back again. The new hair will be visible. The less you remove, the less will grow back.

Unibrow, monobrow and triplebrow

Heavy brows that grow very close together give an unfriendly, hard, grumpy, surly look to any face (male and female).

The teenager in the photo very timidly tweezed a few hair on the bridge of his nose. Actually he should do some eyebrow shaping for the best results.

By removing excess hair across the bridge of the nose, the appearance is immediately greatly improved. Take care not to tweeze until the space between the eyebrows is too big. Don't overdo eyebrow grooming.

A unibrow, monobrow and triplebrow should be cleaned into two separate brows. I know the guys at the Unibrow Club, Monobrow Club and Triple Brow Club won't agree with me. That's really OK with me.

Too long eyebrows need eyebrow grooming

Extremely long brows (see left) that taper down the outsides of the eyes must be shortened.

Very long brows give an unwanted downward slant to the face and eyes. Grooming eyebrows on the outsides provides instant lift to any face.

The shape of your eyebrows makes a huge, although subtle, difference to how you look. People immediately notice the difference, but rarely know exactly what it is.

I would definitely suggest that you go to a professional eyebrow shaper for your first eyebrow shaping.

Ask around to get honest recommendations.

No one will recommend someone if he/she wasn't happy with the results.

Several epilation methods are offered by most beauty salons.

You have a choice between tweezing, threading, sugaring and hot or cold waxing. Do upkeep by tweezing stray hair at home between re-shaping appointments.

Tweezing eyebrows is definitely the easiest DIY eyebrow grooming method available. It isn't so easy to make a mistake, because one hair is removed at a time. But be careful not to become carried away and ending up with lopsided brows.

Threading eyebrows is the preferred professional method. Threaders are highly trained and can pull out one or a whole row of hair if they wish. Threaders really know how to do eyegrow grooming.

Sugaring, hot wax hair removal and cold waxing. This is a good option, because body hair will only grow back after a few weeks. Eyebrow hair can take several months to grow again.
