Male Cyclists

Leg Hair Removal Options

Male cyclists really have no valid reason for performing leg shaving. Unlike male swimmers, leg hair doesn't help cyclists to move faster.

It is purely done for vanity's sake. Cyclists feed their narcissistic and vain tendencies by removing their leg hair.

But they would rather die than admid to this fact. Although a number of my male waxing hair removal clients actually admitted it to me.

You are welcome to make contact with me through my Contact Me form to make an appointment for a full body Kahuna massage or hair removal treatment if you live in or near Pretoria, South Africa.

Which Men Do Leg Hair Removal?

Legs Of Male Cyclists Before A Race The manscaping (or male body hair removal) craze is especially popular with male cyclists and male swimmers.

It has been scientifically proven that the removal of body hair really helps swimmers to move faster through water.

It is not the case with male cyclists.

There is no valid and objective reason for the practice of leg shaving in the sport of cycling.

It is just the norm.

It is the fastest and easiest way to fit in with the group. Especially if you are new to the sport. Or a new club member.

There is also very little common agreement to its rationale, but a multitude of reasons are given in order to justify the practice.

Especially men new to the sport enquire if they should also start shaving their legs. They invariably do it to fit in with the group.

Reasons Given For Leg Shaving

  1. Massages: This is the most popular reason given. Stiff and overworked muscles must be massaged. Leg hair gets tangled in the process, leading to unwelcome pulling of the hair.
  2. Easy Cleaning: It is much easier to wipe mud, road tar and chain oil from hairless legs than hairy legs. Why bother?
  3. Aerodynamics: Wow! Really? Didn't know you cycled that fast! I can understand that the wind can become a little bit irrating on leg hair. Without hair you "feel" faster.
  4. Tight Pants: Cycling pants are skin-tight and pulls on upper leg hair. Cyclists claim that this can lead to ingrown hair. Lycra cycling pants help sweat to evaporate faster. Some cyclists even do genital hair removal.
  5. Road Burn: When male cyclists fall, large areas of skin are grazed off. Huge plasters and bandages are applied that pulls painfully on hair when it is pulled off.
  6. Infection: Presence of hair during a road burn can lead to infection. It is easier to clean gravel out of a graze without hair in the way. Really?

Real Reasons For Shaving Their Legs

  1. Aesthetics: The truth at last! Vanity. Narcissism. Muscled legs look much, much nicer without hair. Cyclists just want to show off their great leg muscle definition.
  2. Group Dynamics: All male cyclists do it, therefore newbies should also. Peer group pressure. If you don't, you won't fit in with the serious cycling group.
  3. Dedication: You want to advertise your serious dedication to cycling. Cyclists with unshaven legs simply cannot be as dedicated as shaven cyclists.
  4. Hero Worship: All professional cyclists shave their legs. You want to emulate your heroes. Naturally you assume they have a good reason for doing it.
  5. The Norm: Clean shaven legs is just as much part of the "cycling uniform" as the funny helmet they wear.

Other Hair Removal Methods

Of course shaving isn't the only hair removal method available to cyclists.

Men just prefer shaving, because it is fast and easy.

Some cyclists understand that several weeks of hairlessness can be achieved with waxing.

But men can't stand the pain.

I think pre-contest shaving is all part of the psyching-up process.

The cyclists get themselves psychologically prepared for the competition of the following day.

You now know which reasons male cyclists give for shaving their legs. Newbie cyclists' next questions are invariably why and how should the hair be removed.
