Shaving Is King As

Body Hair Removal For Men

Only a miracle invention will de-throne shaving as king of hair removal methods for men. Nothing beats its low price, accessibility, simplicity, speed and smooth finish. It remains the temporary hair removal choice of men.

Shaving essentials for the daily ritualThis is just one of the depilation hair removal methods. Read up about the others methods further down the page.

Why do men prefer it?

Simply put, because no other method can beat it. It is cheap, available almost everywhere, can be done anywhere, it's easy, painless, fast and gives a smooth finish.

And it's extremely masculine! Ladies love it to watch a man while he is doing it.

Depilation is a temporary hair removal method. There is no long-term, nor permanent, removal possible with this method.

The hair is simply cut off straight above the skin, while the root is left undisturbed. The androgenic hair very soon start to grow out as hard stubble.

Temporary depilation

  • shaving - smooth results with a huge variety of razors, either manual, battery, rechargeable or electric;
  • trimming - done by means of a huge variety of electric or battery trimmers, the length of the hair can be chosen by attaching different sized combs;
  • chemicals - available as cream, gel or powder; it dissolves the hair above the skin's surface; can result in chemical burns.
  • abrasion - by "sandpapering" away the hair above the skin with some rough surface; hair grows out with softer tip; not suitable for the male beard at all;

All the temporary depilation hair removal methods can be performed on a wet or dry skin. The choice is yours. Do whatever you prefer.

The abrasion method is only successful on fine vellus body hair of women. That means it is totally unsuitable for terminal male body hair.

Razors for a really smooth face

Display of different razors used for shavingWet depilation is performed with all the various (safety, disposable, straight blade, cartridge) types of razors.

Because this is a temporary depilation method, it must be repeated often.

Some men need to remove their facial hair twice daily and others can get by with every third day.

Hair grows back at different speeds on different body areas. It is different for different men.

Most men have to repeat it daily. All depending on what he has planned with his lady love!

The main disadvantages of this method are mostly the prickly stubble, ingrown hair, small cuts and skin irritations.

Chemical depilatory cream is not recommend for use on the face, because it causes itching, rashes, burns and irritation.

Shaving tips

Shaving sensitive skin with baby oil gelSoften the skin and hair you plan to remove by taking a hot shower or bath, especially if your skin is sensitive.

Apply enough soapy lather, baby oil/gel or hair conditioner to help the blade to glide over the skin. Good old Vaseline works fantastic!

Start with the sides of the face, move to the throat, then the chin and lastly the upper lip.

Decide for yourself if you are willing to take the risk of a rash and/or ingrown hair when you stretch the skin to get the smoothest possible result.

And that goes for going against the natural growth direction of the hair too. After shave lotion contains alcohol that will dry the skin.

Now is a good time to apply a cream like Vaya Smooth to combat ingrown hair and then a skin moisturiser to round it off.

Old fashioned cut throat

Shaving with an old fashioned cut throatAlso known as a straight blade or switch blade. Do yourself a favour and practise a lot before you attempt to bring it near your face.

Practice on a kiddies party balloon until you are ready. When the balloon bursts, you would have given yourself a nasty cut!

That blade is very, very sharp!

It is fast and easy to sharpen the blade on a leather strap before each use. The sharp end of the blade is simply moved over the length of the belt in a to-and-fro movement.

In most cowboy and mafia movies there is the inevitable "barber with a straight blade" scene. A soapy lather is whisked up on the soap inside a cup with a fine sable brush.

The white soapy lather is applied thickly to the skin with the brush. Apply shaving cream from a tube or gel in a can with the brush for super hair softening results.

The blade is carefully scraped over the hair with the growth direction. The hair and soap mixture is wiped off on a cloth after each stroke.

When finished, the face is wiped clean with a hot, clean towel. The result is the smoothest cheeks imaginable! Very kissable!

Body grooming or manscaping

Sensible shaving by disinfecting the razorMale hair removal on the body is really catching on in popularity. Most men prefer to shave their unwanted hair.

Hairless bodies have been very popular with male models and strippers for many years.

The smooth look is gaining popularity with male sportsmen, especially male swimmers, male cyclists, male bodybuilders.

Actually, it is popular with all sportsmen.

Unwanted hair can be removed on any (yes, I mean any) part of the body. It goes without saying that help will be needed to rid your own back of hair.

Although a very handy back groomer with a long curved handle can be used, you'll still need help with applying the lather.

Men still prefer to do their male grooming activities in the privacy of their own bathrooms, because they are only starting to explore the unknown territory of the beauty salon.

Male leg shaving

This is another area where you can get very good info from your girlfriend or wife. Remember, she started doing this long before you started shaving your beard.

Always take a hot bath or shower first to soften the hair shafts. Apply the lather of your choice and start at the ankles. Always use a sharp blade that doesn't pull on the hair. If that happens, it is too blunt.

It is OK to go against the natural growth direction of the hair on the legs. It simply feels akward to shave downwards towards the ankles, but feel free to do so if you want to.
