Daily Skin Exfoliation

Homemade Scrubs

Skin exfoliation leaves the skin glowing and free of impurities and dead skin cells. Clogged pores can lead to ingrown hair and skin problems like blackheads, whiteheads or acne.

Skin Exfoliation Bath Products Do a bit of daily rubbing and scrubbing to keep your skin glowing with health.

Start the skin exfoliation process with daily dry skin brushing with a natural bristle brush.

Take it a bit further by washing with a mesh sponge or exfoliating gloves in the bath or shower.

It is a fact that men have coarse wiry hair, much coarser than those of females.

Especially men with curly hair tend to get ingrown hair.

Quite often ingrown hair is the result of distorted follicles.

Hair growing from distorted follicles grow out in strange directions. Naturally frizzy and curly hair grows like a cork screw inside the follicle and under the skin.

Help these trapped hair to find their way out of the skin by removing the skin that cover the follicle openings. Moisturise the skin to further enable the hair to get through the skin.

Reasons To Do Skin Exfoliation

  1. Surface impurities are removed - it can lead to clogged pores. Clogged pores can lead to skin problems (blackheads, whiteheads, acne) or even folliculitis.
  2. To remove the layer of dead skin cells - this layer of skin can cover the pores, thereby preventing the hair from exiting the skin normally. Ingrown hair can be the result. Wait 2-3 days after waxing or sugaring before commencing with exfoliation again.
  3. To smooth the skin on the face and body - the layer of dead skin gives a dull, grey look to the skin. After exfoliation the skin will acquire a polished look and will start to glow with the renewed flow of blood to the surface.

Exfoliate With Sugar And Oil Scrub

Sugar And Oil Skin Exfoliation Scrub Mix white, brown or castor sugar with roughly equal parts vegetable oil. Rub it on the skin in circular motions.

The sugar will exfoliate the dead skin and the oil will soften the skin. This will help the ingrown hair to push through the softened skin.

The coarser brown sugar crystals will exfoliate the skin more than the finer white sugar crystals.

Castor sugar is fine enought to be used gently on the facial skin.

You can use olive oil, grapeseed oil, sunflower oil, peanut oil etc. Baby oil will do in an emergency. Use whatever oil you have in the house.

Wash off with anti-bacterial soap and warm water. Pat skin dry to ensure lots of oil is left for the skin to absorb.

Salt And Oil Skin Exfoliation Scrub

Salt And Oil Skin Exfoliation Scrub Rub coarse sea salt, mixed in equal parts with preferably vegetable oil, on the skin.

The salt will scrub the dead skin away, while killing germs at the same time. The oil will soften the skin covering the ingrown hair.

The coarse salt can be substituted with normal table salt.

The coarser the crystals, the more it will exfoliate the skin. Wash off and pat dry with towel - don't rub.

  1. Slowly heat in the microwave or on the stove.
  2. Let it cool completely.
  3. Add the Apple Cider vinegar to the cool mixture.

Sugar Facial Or Body Mask Dust a little cornstarch on the skin. Apply the mixture to the area with ingrown hair.

Leave on for 20 minutes before rinsing it off. Repeat 3 days later if needed.

When the hair is visible under the skin a strip of cloth can be soaked in the mixture.

Place strip over ingrown hair and let the strip dry out completely.

Quickly rip cloth off against the growth of the hair. Exactly like you would do when you remove cold wax. The hair should be on the strip.

I'm sure you would like to know how to prevent ingrown hair from developing, as well as what the causes of ingrown hair are.

You can also see some photographs of folliculitis and the various conditions when a hair follicle becomes infected by fungus or bacteria.

Other Natural Skin Exfoliation Methods

  1. Sponge - You can use a brand new dishwashing sponge's rough side for extremely good results. Or if you prefer, a special exfoliation glove or mesh sponge made from an onion bag.
  2. Bar Soap - Use any of the above in conjunction with anti-bacterial soap like Panoxyl with 10% benzoyl peroxide to work up a nice lather.
  3. Liquid Soap - A variation is to mix equal parts sugar with liquid soap. All the mixtures can either be used on the whole body, or just on the places prone to ingrown hair or rough skin.
  4. Maize Flour - Prepare a paste with maize flour and water and massage it with circular motions into the skin. Use this the day before waxing, but only twice per month.
  5. Breakfast Cereals - Make a mixture of either wheat germ or oat flakes and one dessertspoon honey. Honey is rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals, meaning the skin will receive nourishment too. Excellent for ingrown hair treatment.
  6. Skin Brushing - Use a natural fibre brush to briskly brush the skin before each bath or shower to help the hair to push through the skin.
  7. Variations of these mixtures can be used on different parts of the body. Of course you won't use coarse salt to scrub the facial skin, but it works wonders on the feet and hands.
