Waxing Equipment

For Male Body Hair Removal

Waxing equipment includes an electric wax warmer, wooden spatulas, salon bed, different hair removal waxes, pre and post waxing lotion, waxing strips, disposable panties, etc.

A busy salon or fancy spa needs all these fancy things to reduce time spent on wax treatments.

Of course the waxing equipment used for DIY home waxing will only be the bare essentials.

At home the kitchen counter will work very well for a salon bed. It is even the correct height!

Remember to cover the kitchen counters with something "disposable", like plastic.

Waxing is ideal for male body hair removal. Below you will get a list of the best hair removal products needed by salons and also for waxing at home to make your treatment easier.

Wax heating equipment

Waxing equipment - roller pistols with cartridges Roller wax cartridges
Also known as waxing pistol system, used for cold waxing. This system makes application extremely fast. Wax filled cartridges are heated in a special thermostatically controlled device that holds anything from 2 to several cartridges. Busy salons should adhere to waxing safety precautions by using a separate roller wax cartridge for each client. Name marked and stored.

Waxing equipment - electric wax warmer Electric wax warmer
This is a very versatile piece of waxing equipment for home and salon use. Both hot wax and cold wax are bought in metal tins of 500g and 800g. They are standard sizes to fit into most electric wax heaters. The temperature is easy to control with a dial from 1 - 10. It is fast and easy to switch between different wax types by switching tins.

Waxing equipment - electric frying pan Electric frying pan
This is ideal for salon and home waxing, because the temperature can be controlled with the dial. The only problem is you need a lot of wax because of the size of the pan. If you decide to use this, you might need two electric frying pans. One for the cold wax and another one for the hot wax hair removal product. Never heat wax to smoking point.

Waxing equipment - in saucepan with boiling water In saucepan on stove plate
Not recommended for salon use. The metal tin can be placed inside boiling water in a pot on the stove to melt. Take care that water doesn't splash into the wax. Wax will start to cool down when it is removed from the water. I suggest you leave the tin inside the hot water. This method can be used at home where the wax tins can remain in the water.

Waxing equipment - heat wax in microwave oven Microwave oven
All types of chemical wax, as well as 100% natural sugaring, can be heated this way. Very difficult to regulate the temperature. Wax can very easily become too hot. Use very short bursts of power until melted. Heat will be lost rapidly once it is removed from the microwave oven. Only really suitable for small amounts of wax for small body areas like the upper lip.

Disposable waxing equipment

Waxing equipment - beauty salon treatment bed Salon treatment/massage bed
OK, I know a bed isn't disposable. The height of a salon bed is comfortable for working standing up. The back can be raised into a comfortable sitting position. There is a hole for the face when the clients turns onto the tummy. Covered with easy to clean vinyl with metal legs (mostly). For home waxing the kitchen counters, covered with newspapers, can work excellently.

Waxing equipment - cover treatment bed with plastic Disposable bed cover
The cosmetologist has three options to choose from. Do the waxing treatment on the bare salon bed and clean any wax spills from the vinyl afterwards. Cover the bed with a sheet of thick plastic that is cleaned afterwards. Or use a sheet of paper that is thrown away afterwards. Unfortunately the bare bed and plastic can become sweaty, and the paper can stick to the body.

Waxing equipment - disposable panties Disposable panties
They are offered to waxing clients. Many prefer to wear their own underwear. It is just pulled away where necessary. It isn't even offered to brazilian waxing clients. It just doesn't make any sense to wear anything during this treatment, because the panty will just be in the way.

Waxing equipment - pre waxing lotion or hand sanitizer Pre-waxing lotion
A wide variety of commercial lotions are available to clean the skin before waxing commences. Look under ingredients if it contains aloe vera and witch hazel for their antiseptic properties. For home waxing waterless hand sanitizer works very well. Or mix witch hazel into some aloe vera gel. Body oil and sweat can very easily be cleaned away with soap and water.

Waxing equipment - remove wax with something oily Post-waxing oil
The main reason for using this oil or lotion is to remove any wax residue on the skin. But the skin must also be sanitized and the follicles helped to close up faster. Look for witch hazel, allantoin and lemongrass essential oil for healing properties in commercial products. Aloe Vera gel or a few drops of Tea Tree oil and lemongrass essential oil in witch hazel works very well too.

Waxing equipment - powder absorbs dampness Baby powder
A fine dusting of baby powder or cornstarch is applied to the skin. Remove excess powder by rubbing a piece of cotton wool against the hair's growth direction. The powder will also absorb any oil or moisture left on the skin. Powder also lifts the hair from the skin, helping the hair to adhere better to the wax. It is also easy to see which areas haven't been waxed yet.

Waxing equipment - wooden spatulas of different sizes Wooden spatulas
A have-to-have piece of waxing equipment. Never use anything made of metal. Normally you will need spatulas of different sizes. To apply hot wax to large areas you will need a nice big sturdy spatula. Wooden tongue depressors used by doctors work very well to apply cold wax and hard wax to most areas of the body. For fine work like eyebrow wax, break it lengthwise.

Waxing equipment - denim waxing strips for sugaring Waxing strips
You cannot do cold waxing without this piece of waxing equipment. Strips can be commercially bought or made at home. Commercial waxing strips are available as ready cut or on a big roll. Homemade denim cold wax strips are reusable when used for sugaring. The same strip can be used over and over until it becomes too heavy and clogged to use any longer.

Waxing equipment - remove stray hair with tweezer Tweezer
You will need a good tweezer to pull out the odd hair that wasn't waxed out. Because the skin is warm and the follicles dilated, the hair will be tweezed out easily. It is better to remove stray hair with a tweezer than to re-apply wax over previously waxed areas. The warmed skin might be pulled off or harmed in another way. Do not to drop your tweezer, the tips might get damaged.

Waxing equipment - illuminated magnifying lamp Illuminated magnifier
This is a fantastic piece of equipment to have in any salon. It illuminates the working area and magnifies it at the same time! Handy to have for tweezing out stray hair. Not necessary for the waxing itself, but it makes it so much easier to clearly see what you are doing. It takes a little bit of practice to get used to the feeling of working far away, while the eyes see it as nearby.

Waxing equipment - bright light with swivel arm Bright light with swivel arm
Another very nice to have piece of equipment for waxing. Take care to use energy saving globes that doesn't get hot. You never know what might happen and you really do not want to burn a client with a hot globe on sensitive skin. The adjustable swivel arm makes it easy to position the light exactly where you want or need illumination.

Waxing equipment - waxing bib protect your clothes Waxing bib to protect your clothes
No amount of rubbing or scrubbing can get wax out of clothes. Or anything else for that matter. If you are lucky you can get the wax out with some baby oil. But that isn't a guarantee! The bib can be plastic or cloth. It is a formless piece of material with a hole for the head and open on the sides. Straps with a buttonhole and a button on the bib to close it with.

Waxing equipment - waste basket for disposables Waste bowl/bin
Used cold waxing strips and pieces of hot wax and film wax should be placed inside the waste bowl immediately. That keeps the workplace tidy. Clients don't want to see what have been used during the treatment. A client only wants to see the results of the treatment.

Waxing equipment - box of disposable latex gloves Disposable gloves
Exactly like those worn by medical doctors and dentists. Made from thin latex. It is available in small, medium, large and extra large. It has a very fine coating of powder on the inside to help with the process of putting the gloves on. It is available in different colors, but white remains the most popular of them all.

Waxing equipment - tins with different wax types Different hair removal waxes
This is the one piece of waxing equipment you must have or you can't do waxing! You have a choice between:
- sugaring,
- cool or cold waxing,
- film or pliable wax, and
- hot or hard wax.

Where can I buy these waxing equipment?

All of these waxing equipment are available at beauty salon suppliers. It is also freely available at most chemists and department stores. There is no need to buy huge quantities at all.

Salon beds, wax warmers, single tins of wax, waxing strips, tongue depressors, etc can be bought at beauty equipment suppliers. I'm not sure if the public can buy there. You can try Marica Salon Specialists or Magnolia at magnoliabe@mweb.co.za.

Or make it easy on yourself and visit the Professional Beauty website - or buy their magazine with the same name.

I live in Pretoria, South Africa where the public has no problem buying most waxing equipment from places like Planet Nails or DisChem pharmacies.
