Waxing Your Unwanted Hair Means You're Riding The Metrosexual Manscaping Wave...

Waxing is a temporary hair depilation method that involves spreading a heated consistency onto unwanted hair, then ripping it off.

Do you perhaps have a hilariously funny story about your first experience you might be willing to share with us? Write your own unique stories and I'll publish it on this website.

This hair removal method gives you ultra-smooth legs, chest, eyebrows (unibrow), back of neck, back, genital area, toes and knuckles for 3-6 weeks.

The tempo of regrowth differs from man to man, and on different body areas. This is just what busy 21st century metrosexual men who do manscaping want! Of course you are aware that the hair will grow back again.

You are an informed individual, who knows that all epilation and depilation methods are only temporary methods. Only electrolysis give permanent results.

But you also know that after repeated treatments, the hair gradually becomes thinner and lighter in colour. This is because the roots are weakened and therefore produce thinner hair at longer intervals.

Back Waxing The depilation methods are: shaving, trimming, friction and depilatory creams.

The epilation methods are: waxing, sugaring, tweezing, threading and electrical epilator devises.

Long-term results are achieved with flashlamps like intense pulsed light (IPL) and lasers. Prescription creams and pills are not for male consumption.

Useful Waxing Tips

  • Hair must be about 0.5cm in length for a good grip.

  • Apply baby powder to absorb all body oils or dampness on skin.

  • Test temperature of wax on inside of wrist. Let cool if it is too hot.

  • Cotton strips or special non-woven epilating paper can be used with the cold or strip technique.

  • Never use a metal utensil, because it absorbs the heat. Use wooden spatulas.

  • Stretch skin taught with one hand and pull off with the other hand. Get the client to help when necessary.

  • Start in one of the lowest corners and work your way upwards. Typically start at the ankle and work towards the knee.

  • Do NOT pull upwards into the air! Try to stay as parallel to the skin as possible when you rip it off.

  • Immediately apply pressure with the free hand to lessen pain.

  • Tweeze any stray hair that weren't removed at the end of the treatment.

  • Remove any traces of wax left with special lotion or oil for that specific purpose.

  • Apply soothing Aloe Vera gel or Teetree Oil to the treated area.

  • Avoid tight clothes/underclothes that might be irritating for 1-3 days.

  • Avoid very hot baths and suntanning for 1-3 days after treatment.

  • Skin numbing cream like Emla may be applied an hour befote treatment.

  • After several professional treatments, you might want to try a DIY kit. Carefully watch everything the cosmetologist does for tips.

  • Get help for difficult to reach areas - meaning the whole back of your body!

Hot Technique

Hot Wax Hair Removal
  • This is the chemical equivalent of the ancient 100% natural sugar-paste method, which is both applied and removed by hand.

  • Best method for very coarse hair with deep follicles, like pubic and axilla hair. Cold wax is not very succesful.

  • Apply thickly with wooden spatula in the direction of hair growth.

  • Allow to cool and set somewhat. Loosen the lowest tip (eg near ankle and not knee) a little bit to get a place to hold on to.

  • Grip loosened tip between the fingers while stretching skin taughtly. Rip off against hair growth, as parallel to the skin as possible.

  • Don't wax the same area again, because the warmed skin might be ripped off.

Cold Technique

  • This is the chemical equivalent of the 100% natural sugar-gel method. Removed with cotton or paper strips.

  • Heat until the consistency of honey is reached. Test on wrist.

  • Not recommended for use on the coarse pubic and underarm hair.

  • Use wooden (never metal) spatula and scrape on extremely thinly in the direction of hair growth.

  • The whole area to be epilated can be covered at this time.

  • Start at the lowest corner and apply a strip of about 7cmX20cm cotton or paper.

  • Rub the whole strip several times to adhere hair firmly to the wax and strip.

  • Stretch the skin and grab hold of bottom of strip and rip off against the hair growth.

  • Immediately apply pressure with the hand that stretched the skin.

  • Move to where hair starts again, apply strip there, rub and rip off.

Very Important Facts

  • Never treat any area where skin is damaged, irritated, sensitive or broken.

  • Diabetics and persons with varicose veins or bad circulation shouldn't be treated.

  • Vitamin A prescription drugs weaken the skin, causing it to tear when removing wax.

  • Any area with warts, pimples, moles or rashes must always be avoided.

  • Wait until a sunburnt skin is totally healed - or you might tear it off.

  • Very hygienic because all used products are thrown away afterwards.

  • Poor technique can result in hair breaking off or growing in.

  • Reduce ingrown hair by exfoliating regularly, not just after a treatment.

  • Apply astringent or solution of astringent and baby oil for a few days.

Although this technique is accompanied by some pain, the long lasting results definitely make it worth your while. Follow this link to read about other hair removal techniques.
